Cairnmuir Olives
Cairnmuir Olives is a small family owned business, growing and processing olives into extra virgin olive oil. The grove was established in 1999 on undeveloped land that was formerly part of the Cairnmuir high country sheep station.
The infertile land supported mainly wild thyme, viper’s bugloss and Californian poppies. Development of the site was undertaken to preserve the existing wildflowers and native vegetation.
We planted 550 trees in December 1999 and 450 trees in November 2001.
Cairnmuir Olives aim to produce the highest quality olive oil and we submit our oils each year for certification by Olives NZ. We enter our oils in the Olives NZ Extra Virgin Olive Oil Awards to provide an independent assessment. We are very pleased to have consistently won awards since 2004.
We celebrate the unique region we live in and the unique character it imparts to our oils. We are exploring ways of celebrating this World of Difference by developing unique tastes of the region including oil made by pressing olives and wild thyme together.
Cairnmuir Olives are proud to display the Central Otago brand on the front label of our olive oil bottles and also in our brochures.
