Central Otago Farmers Market

One of New Zealand’s firmly established authentic farmers markets, the Central Otago Farmers’ Market is held every Sunday from late October until the end of February, 9 am – 1 pm.

This seasonal market is distinctive due to its setting within the Old Cromwell Town historic precinct off Melmore Terrace, on the edge of Lake Dunstan. A small and lively market, surrounded by wooden and stone buildings reflecting Cromwell’s past, it conveys a sense of intimate ‘market square’.

Produce includes fresh stonefruit from Central Otago’s renowned orchards, local bread and cheeses, fresh baking, olive oils from district olive groves, summer vegetables and fresh-cut herbs, berry fruits, regional specialty meats – venison, hare, pheasant, merino - cut flowers, honeys and preserves featuring intensely flavoured local fruits. In addition, a wide range of other seasonal foods appear during the market’s long summer months: lavender products, organic beer and organic greens, teas, fresh eggs, vegetable and flower garden plants and much more.

And right next to the market, Old Cromwell Towns’ own varied and interesting shops beckon. The Central Otago Farmer’s Market, combined with the shopping experiences offered within the precinct, ensures a great Sunday outing.
