Central Gourmet Galleria
|
Marianne and Mark’s passion for Central Otago is evident when you enter their shop, Central Gourmet Galleria. This unique business is in the old Clyde Butchery building in Clyde’s Historic precinct, nestled between beautiful old buildings. They showcase the finest tastes of Central Otago, and boast a stunning array of local award-winning wines, condiments and New Zealand-made gifts, jewellery, photographs and Rail Trail souvenirs. From the colours of the logo to the use of old metal and wood for displays, the couple have managed to create a fusion of the past and present, capturing the essence of Central.
Marianne’s great, great grandfather George Upton Field spent his working life in Central, running the general store in the Ida Valley, building the Butchers Gully Hotel and gold mining around the Earnscleugh Valley. Her great-grandparents and grandparents, the Maginnis family, were orchardists at Earnscleugh, where Marianne and Mark have also put down roots.
The unique landscapes, the generosity of spirit of the people here and the feeling of belonging can never be duplicated, and the chance to be ambassadors and establish a business using the Central Otago – ‘A World of Difference’ brand is a source of enormous pride for Marianne and Mark.
